Ashley Winegarden, BA, MSc

Research Assistant, Autism Center
Child Mind Institute

Ashley Winegarden, MSc, is a research assistant in the Autism Center at the Child Mind Institute. She graduated from New York University (NYU) with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and received her master’s in developmental psychology and psychopathology from King’s College London.

Ashley was previously a research assistant in the Conceptual Development and Social Cognition Lab at NYU, where she sought to understand the impact of language on science persistence in young children. At the Harvard Laboratory for Developmental Studies, she utilized EEG to better characterize predictive and sensory differences in autistic children. And at King’s College London, Ashley’s master’s dissertation investigated how teachers identify and respond to anxiety in students with intellectual disabilities who are unable to verbally express their fears. This led to her involvement in the creation of a new diagnostic measure of anxiety in children with those specific challenges.

As a research assistant in the Autism Center, Ashley supports recruitment, enrollment, data collection, and data management for the research center under the supervision of Adriana Di Martino, MD. Ashley is interested in learning how to best support the mental health of children and young people. She intends to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology.
