Fardowsa Dahir

Fardowsa Dahir is a research assistant with the Healthy Brain Network at the Child Mind Institute. She graduated magna cum laude from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in public health with a specialization in sociology.

Previously, Fardowsa was a San Francisco Urban Fellow, where she served as a research data analyst for the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH). In this role, she organized, managed, and analyzed confidential data on maternal and children’s health, produced policy-focused research reports, and co-authored a paper on preterm birth. Additionally, Fardowsa coordinated health fairs for unhoused populations, facilitating access to essential health services for over 250 individuals.

Fardowsa has also performed qualitative research on the aftermath of violence in Rwanda, taught summer school to English Language Learners, and led trauma-informed educational programs for incarcerated youth and refugee populations.

As a research assistant for the Healthy Brain Network, Fardowsa is responsible for enrolling participants, conducting clinical interviews, administering and scoring assessments, generating feedback forms for families, and collecting and managing data to provide no-cost neuropsychological evaluations for participants ages 5–21.

Fardowsa plans to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology, driven by her commitment to helping disadvantaged youth recognize their strengths and overcome challenges and interest in how trauma and diagnosis influence identity and shape children’s development.
