Josefina Toso Salman, MA, is a clinical extern in the Anxiety Disorders Center at the Child Mind Institute. She is a third-year doctoral candidate in the Clinical Psychology PhD Program at Hofstra University on Long Island. Ms. Toso Salman is a native Spanish speaker, is fluent in both Spanish and English and has facilitated therapy and behavior coaching in both languages. She is skilled in providing evidence-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy for children and adolescents (DBT-C and DBT-A) and parent management training. She has also obtained training in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) and is a certified therapist in parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT). She has experience providing treatment to children, adolescents, young adults and parents of children with generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, panic disorder, selective mutism, ADHD, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, autism spectrum disorder and depression.

Ms. Toso Salman has provided individual, parent-child and group therapy in clinical and virtual settings. She has held long-standing positions at the Children’s Hospital of New York Presbyterian and with a telehealth behavioral coaching program. She has also served as a counselor for selective mutism camps, Camp CHAT (at Hofstra University) and Brave Buddies. Her doctoral research examines the impact of neurocognitive differences in caregiver working memory on the acquisition of parenting skills in PCIT. She is also particularly interested in the creation of culturally sensitive adaptations of evidence-based treatments, and is motivated to promote the inclusion of culturally diverse groups in mental health treatment and research.
