Melissa P. Merker

Melissa P. Merker is a social work intern for the School and Community Programs team at the Child Mind Institute. She is currently in the second year of her MSW program at Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University. She completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology and Spanish from University at Albany.

Ms. Merker previously worked as an intern at BluePearl Specialty and Emergency Pet Hospital. She gained the unique experience of practicing veterinary social work, providing support to both the veterinary staff as well as the clients who come in with their pets. As a clinical intern, she referred individuals to appropriate resources as well as conducting risk assessments and consulting on quality of life and euthanasia decisions. She also worked as a cultural and language assistant teaching English in Alcobendas, Spain.

Ms. Merker is passionate about using an integrative approach to empowering and advocating for children, their families, and their communities.
