The coronavirus pandemic has stressed families in unique ways. Parents across the country are learning how to navigate remote learning, working from home and all the challenges of our “new normal.” When parents are busy, overwhelmed and on autopilot, they can lose sight of the present moment and, at times, the rewarding aspects of parenting.
The Child Mind Institute’s Mindfulness and Parenting Skills (MAPS) Group supports parents by teaching mindfulness skills. Mindfulness practices are clinically shown to reduce stress and enhance feelings of well-being and connectedness. The goal of MAPS is to help parents develop a greater understanding of their thoughts, emotions, body sensations and behaviors through mindfulness. This group aims to help parents slow down and reduce stress, and it teaches strategies for applying mindfulness skills to the many tasks of parenting.
When: Tuesdays from November 4 – December 16
Time: 1:00-2:00pm ET / 10:00-11:00am PT
Cost: $1,200 for six (6) sessions
Location: Virtual via Zoom
Eligibility: Parents of any age children
This is a six-week group and will be offered via telehealth. During each 60-minute session, group members will learn about and practice mindfulness techniques and discuss and troubleshoot the challenges of building a mindfulness practice as a parent. Group members will be given specific skills to practice at home in order to support a long-term commitment to mindfulness.
