Climbing the Ladder: Practicing Brave Talking Skills

This workshop is part of the Selective Mutism Parent and Educator Series. Visit Parent and Educator Workshops on Selective Mutism to register for upcoming events and view archived workshops.

The heart of selective mutism (SM) treatment is helping children to do "brave talking" in a variety of situations through graduated exposures. Rachel Busman, PsyD, director of the Selective Mutism Service at the Child Mind Institute, will explain the whys, whens, and hows of exposure therapy so that parents and professionals can effectively guide children up the ladder. Additionally, she will help parents and teachers create their own portable brave talking kits and integrate graduated exposures into daily routines. This workshop will build on the core skill sets covered in the prior workshop, Building Brave Muscles.
