About the Professor
John S. Markowitz, PharmD
Professor, Pharmacotherapy & Translational Research, University of Florida College of Pharmacy
John S. Markowitz, Pharm.D. is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Research within the University of Florida’s (UF) College of Pharmacy. He is a member of the core faculty for The Center of Pharmacogenomics and Precision Medicine.
John received his Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in microbiology from Memphis State University, and his Doctorate in Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences (UTCHS). He completed a specialty residency in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice, also at the UTCHS. He is board certified in Psychiatric Pharmacy. Following his training, Dr. Markowitz served for 12 years as a Clinical Specialist in psychiatric pharmacy within the Institute of Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC before transitioning over to a research faculty member in the MUSC College of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmaceutical & Biomedical Sciences with a dual appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He remained at MUSC prior to joining UF in 2009.
Dr. Markowitz’s research program has encompassed both in vitro and in vivo investigations including normal volunteer pharmacokinetic studies directed at the assessment of drug-drug interactions in psychopharmacology, botanical-drug interactions, as well as their associated clinical effects. More recently, the research program has focused on the pharmacokinetics (PK), pharmacodynamics (PD) and pharmacogenomics of psychiatric medications with a with a primary interest area of psychostimulants. He has published over 165 peer-reviewed papers and received research support from both the pharmaceutical industry and the NIH serving as the principal investigator of research grants funded by an array of institutes including NCCAM, NIDA, NIAID, and NICHD.

These lectures are open to the public and are available live via webinar, but are not available for viewing after the event. Continuing medical education credits (CME) are offered for medical professionals through our partnership with Northwell Health.
