ADHD and Messy Rooms

March 15, 2022

“Just clean your room!” If you’re the parent of a child with ADHD you’ve likely said these words more times than you can count. Kids with ADHD are notoriously messy, and it can feel like no amount of asking, pleading, cajoling or (let’s be honest) yelling seems to make a difference. No matter what you try, that laundry is still on the floor. What do you do?

This week on childmind.org we’ve got new advice to help parents understand why ADHD and mess go hand in hand, and how parents can help kids learn the skills they need to best the mess, get organized, and feel more confident and in control. We also offer suggestions for other common struggles kids with ADHD face.
