It’s a question we hear a lot: Do kids grow out of ADHD? Since the disorder causes trouble for kids in school, parents wonder if the end of school might also mean leaving ADHD, and the difficulties it causes, behind.

Not exactly. The things kids with ADHD struggle with definitely change as they get older. Early symptoms like behavioral issues and trouble listening can give way to homework hassles, disorganization disasters, and social struggles as kids reach middle and high school. But kids also learn to manage their symptoms so they interfere less. And there’s a lot parents can do to help them build the skills they need, boost their self-esteem, and see them grow into happy, healthy adults.
