It’s not usually celebrated with champagne and fireworks, but for kids, going back to school is the real start of a new year. New teachers, new expectations, new opportunities to make friends. For children and teenagers, whose identities continue to evolve and take shape, it can be a fresh start. And for those who have struggled in school, it’s a clean slate.

That’s why this week at childmind.org we’re rounding up resources to help prime kids for a positive start before the big day. We offer dos and don’ts for easing back into school-year routines — and tips for parents of kids with anxiety, who may have a hard time separating. For kids who struggle with ADHD or learning disorders, we suggest test-driven strategies to boost their morale and help them avoid last year’s pitfalls. And we’ve curated tips and tools for supporting kids who have selective mutismsensory issues, and trouble with organization.
