Intervention: Behavior Service
The Child Mind Institute’s behavior service provides support to elementary school educators and caregivers with students in grades K-3 struggling with behavior and emotion regulation. Services include small-group instruction to help children learn social and emotional skills, individual student behavior plans, weekly teacher consultation and student observation, and family education. There may be between five and six students in each group, and groups are led by a Child Mind Institute clinician.
Intervention: Trauma Service
The Child Mind Institute’s group trauma treatment is an evidence-based treatment for students between the ages of 8 and 16 who have experienced a traumatic event. Our Trauma Treatment Groups in Schools (TTGS) program teaches children skills to cope with various difficulties that arise from trauma exposure and provides a supportive environment for them to talk about their experiences. There may be between 5 and 6 students in each group. Groups are led by a Child Mind Institute clinician and can be delivered in-person or via telehealth.
TTGS is to be used with groups of students who have been impacted by traumatic events and are experiencing moderate levels of post-traumatic stress symptoms. Students typically engage in 10 group sessions that focus on evidence based coping skills specific to symptoms that follow exposure to traumatic events. Treatment also includes two individual sessions where students focus on addressing their specific traumatic event. Lastly, TTGS includes ways to engage caregivers in the support of treatment gains and generalization of skills.
Intervention: Mood Service
The Child Mind Institute’s mood service provides social-emotional support to students in grades 7-12 struggling with emotion regulation, decision-making, and relationship management. The treatment is a modified Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) program that helps students develop skills to more effectively regulate their emotions, solve problems, and enhance their lives. This treatment consists of 11 group sessions and 2 individual sessions. The program takes place at the school, during the school day. There may be 4-6 students per group, and groups are led by a Child Mind Institute clinician.
Intervention: Reading Service
The Child Mind Institute’s reading service offers reading remediation groups for first grade students struggling with early reading acquisition. These will take place twice weekly for 12 weeks. We will provide ongoing feedback to teachers and caregivers, including weekly emails about the work of the week, a meeting with a child’s teacher and caregiver every 6 weeks to discuss the child’s progress in greater detail, and suggested activities to practice skills in the classroom and at home. We will evaluate student progress, based on pre- and post-assessments to measure the child’s phonemic awareness, decoding fluency, word reading fluency, and oral reading fluency.
