The School and Community Programs team partners with school districts nationwide to provide trainings to professionals on evidence-based mental health disorder prevention and intervention services for students.

Behavior Service Intervention (BSI) Training Program

The Child Mind Institute School and Community Programs team is now offering professional training in our Behavior Service Intervention. The Behavior Service Intervention provides support to elementary school educators and caregivers with students in grades K–3 struggling with behavior and emotion regulation.  The intervention includes three components: small-group instruction to help children learn social and emotional skills, biweekly teacher consultation, and family education. Dialectical Behavior Therapy Groups for Students (DBT-GS) Training Program

The Child Mind Institute School and Community Programs team is now offering professional training in our Dialectical Behavior Therapy Groups for Students (DBT-GS) intervention. The DBT Groups for Students training program is geared to help school-based mental health providers deliver evidence-based group treatment for students experiencing intense emotions and difficulty managing their emotions.  DBT-GS is a treatment protocol for students ages 12-18 who are struggling to cope with intense emotions and behaviors.  Identified students participate in an 11-week small group intervention that focuses on evidence-based coping skills to manage intense emotions, thoughts, and urges. DBT-GS also includes ways to engage guardians and mental health providers in supporting their student in treatment.

Mental Health Skill-Building (MHSB) Training Program

The Child Mind Institute’s School and Community Programs team is providing a training opportunity in our Mental Health Skill-Building (MHSB) Training Program. The MHSB curriculum is designed to introduce students to a set of evidence-based coping skills that prepare them to effectively regulate emotions, manage thoughts and behaviors, interact effectively with others, and engage in relaxation and mindfulness practices to navigate stressful situations. Grounded in cognitive behavioral techniques with a focus on relationship-building, the Mental Health Skill-Building curriculum is designed to promote individual growth and resilience while encouraging students to think of each other and their communities. The curriculum is designed to be delivered through a six-part modular skill-building series, adapted for kindergarten through 12th grade. Each module is divided into several lessons to incorporate within the academic day.

Trauma Treatment Groups for Students (TTGS) Training Program

The Child Mind Institute offers a training program for school-based mental health providers on how to deliver group treatment for trauma-exposed students.

Trauma Treatment Groups for Students (TTGS) is an evidence-based treatment protocol for students ages 8-18 struggling in the aftermath of trauma exposure. TTGS is based on Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) and modified for students in high need communities who are at risk for experiencing chronic traumatic events. Research has shown that exposure to traumatic events and chronic stressors has adverse effects on students’ school, social and family functioning. TTGS provides schools with the opportunity to address the mental health epidemic that follows exposure to trauma. TTGS is to be used with groups of students who have been impacted by traumatic events and are experiencing moderate levels of post-traumatic stress symptoms. Students typically engage in 10 group sessions that focus on evidence-based coping skills specific to symptoms that follow exposure to traumatic events. Treatment also includes two individual sessions where students focus on addressing their specific traumatic event. Lastly, TTGS includes ways to engage families in the support of treatment gains and generalization of skills.
