High-Risk Behaviors: Early Warning Signs and Prevention Strategies (CA)

Children and adolescents who engage in high-risk behaviors often exhibit early emotional, behavioral, social, or functional warning signs before concerns escalate. These behaviors may include self-harm, suicidality, aggression, substance use, unsafe online activity, risk-taking behaviors, or other actions that compromise safety and well-being. Early identification and intervention are critical to reducing risk and improving outcomes.

This workshop for professionals explores common pathways leading to high-risk behaviors, reviews key risk and protective factors, and highlights evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies. Participants will learn how to recognize early warning signs, conduct appropriate screening and response efforts, and collaborate across systems to support youth safety, resilience, and mental health.
