Caitlyn Downie, LCSW

Caitlyn Downie, LCSW, is the Director of Trauma and Resilience and a social worker in the Anxiety Disorders Center at the Child Mind Institute. She specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents, and families who have experienced trauma and stress-related disorders. Bringing more than 10 years of experience working across hospitals, community-based mental health settings, and schools, she is deeply committed to trauma-informed, relational care and integrates evidence-based practices with a focus on safety, cultural humility, and resilience-building.

She has extensive training in trauma-focused interventions and uses an integrative approach to treating children and families, including trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), internal family systems (IFS), mentalization-based treatment (MBT), and attachment-based modalities. Her clinical experience includes supporting young children and adolescents with regulatory or relational challenges while navigating complex trauma and systemic adversity.

Downie’s therapeutic style is warm, grounded, and collaborative. She values the power of the therapeutic relationship and believes healing is possible when individuals are met with compassion, consistency, and trust. She is currently expanding her expertise through advanced clinical training at the Anna Freud Centre in London, focusing on contemporary psychodynamic approaches and child development. Downie is also certified in perinatal mental health (PMH-C), reflecting her dedication to supporting families during the earliest and most critical phases of development.
