We at Child Mind Institute, Inc., Child Mind Medical Practice, PLLC, and Child Mind Medical Practice, PC (together, “CMI”) want our websites to be a safe and private place for users. We will do our part by not requiring you to register or provide any information at all to use most sections and features of our websites. In turn, you can do your part by reading this Privacy Notice and taking the steps outlined below. 

This Privacy Notice applies solely to (a) the following websites operated by CMI: childmind.org, training.childmind.org, and kai.childmind.org, and (b) other CMI controlled websites, online services, or mobile applications in which this Privacy Policy is expressly referenced and linked (collectively, (a) and (b) are the “Websites”).  Other terms and policies may govern your use of other CMI and third-party online and offline services, including mirrorjournal.com, gettingcurious.com, all websites directed to international audiences (whether or not linked to or promoted on childmind.org or other Websites), and third-party social media platforms.

During your use of our Websites you may be prompted to provide personal information. This is information you provide which personally identifies you, including, but not limited to, your name, email address, mailing address, telephone number, or other personal information that you provide to us when you are using the CMI websites.

By visiting or using our Websites, you agree that we may collect, process, use, and disclose personal information in accordance with this Privacy Notice. We may update this Privacy Notice periodically to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. We will post any updates here with a revised effective date.

We do not knowingly collect or use sensitive personal information as defined under applicable state consumer privacy laws (such as health information or information about children) through our website except where it is necessary to provide requested services or where you have provided explicit consent.

There are certain actions and areas of our websites that will require you to provide personal information. These include, but are not limited to:

• Signing up for emails or newsletters
• Downloading certain reports or other documents
• Making a donation
• Requesting an appointment
• Submitting user content

If you do submit information to us, we will use that information for the purposes for which it was submitted. We may also use your information to personalize communications to you and keep you informed about other CMI-related activities, or as otherwise disclosed to you at the point of collection.

We automatically collect and store some information about your computer and your visit. This information includes your IP address, browser type, device information, and site usage data. This also includes “cookies”, discussed in more detail below and in our cookie policy.  We use these types of automatically collected information to analyze trends, improve user experience, and maintain website performance. These statistics do not directly identify individuals.

We use third-party vendors to provide services on the CMI websites and in our offline business operations. The information that you submit on this website may be provided to those vendors on a confidential basis so that those vendors can provide services on our behalf. These services include, but are not limited to, donor contact management, credit card processing, email delivery, web analytics, appointment request tracking, and job application processing. A third-party vendor’s collection and use of personal information is governed by the policies of that vendor.

Please refer to our cookie policy regarding information that may be collected by or transmitted to third parties via cookies and your options to disable certain non-essential cookies.  Some state laws, if applicable to you, may define the exchange of information through certain cookies (such as, for example, statistical, advertising, marketing, and tracking cookies), as a “sale” or a “share” or similar term.

Other than the information exchanges disclose in our cookie policy, we do not sell personal information collected through the Websites covered by this Privacy Notice.

We do not sell, rent, or trade our donors’ names or personal information to or with any other entity, nor do we send mailings to our donors on behalf of other organizations.

If you choose to make an online donation, you will provide your payment information through our third-party fundraising platform, Fundraise Up. Fundraise Up uses Stripe, a third-party payment processor, to securely process donation transactions. Information collected during the donation process may be shared with Child Mind Institute to facilitate your donation and maintain our donor records, but your full payment card information is not provided to us.

CMI is dedicated to advancing children’s mental health through compassionate care, revolutionary science, and wide-reaching public education.  Our Websites support this mission by allowing us to share information with parents, guardians, educators, clinicians, scientists, and others.

While some of our content is designed to be accessed by parents or guardians to support the care they provide to their children, our Websites covered by this Privacy Notice are generally not intended to be accessed by children under the age of 18 directly and we do not intentionally collect the personal information of children except for particular Websites that expressly indicate they are intended for children and  which are governed by a separate privacy policy.

By using this Website or any other Website governed by this Privacy Notice, you represent that you are at least 18 years old. By using all other any of our other Websites, you represent that you are at least 18 years old unless the Website expressly states that it is intended for children.

Residents of certain U.S. states may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws.

As applicable, these rights may include:

• Access: A right to request access to the personal information we have collected about you.
• Disclosure: A right to request information about the categories of personal data we collect, use, and share.

Our Websites are offered and operated in the United States. • Object: A right to object to CMI’s processing of your personal information by contacting us.
• Withdraw: A right to withdraw that consent to our processing your personal information.

Do Not Track is a privacy preference that users can set in certain web browsers. We follow  reasonable standards to protect the personal information submitted to us in order to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information you have provided. The security measures used on the CMI websites include, but are not limited to, encryption technology, firewalls and internal policies to maintain the security of stored data.  However, no method of transmission over the Internet or of electronic storage is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use reasonable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. If you are worried because your communication is very sensitive, do not send it electronically.

The CMI Websites may contain links to other websites or social media platforms that are owned or operated by third parties. In some cases, the CMI Websites may also include embedded tools or widgets that are provided and controlled by third parties (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube). When you visit third-party websites or social media platforms, CMI does not control how they may collect or use your personal information collected from their site.  When you visit other websites or social media platforms, check each one’s privacy policy yourself and be careful about the information you submit or share.

If you do not want to receive any email from us in the future, click the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of an email you have received. Note that your records will remain in CMI’s databases, but your email address will be deactivated.
