The Child Mind Institute is pleased to announce that we recently received the largest individual donation in our twelve-year history — a $20 million gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.
This gift comes at a critical moment for child and adolescent mental health. Amid increasing rates of suicide among young people, a continued and everchanging pandemic, and warnings from leading health organizations and the Surgeon General that our youth are in crisis, one thing is clear: the time has come to leverage growing public awareness into urgent, meaningful change.
Since the Child Mind Institute’s founding in 2009, we have made remarkable strides in addressing stigma, delivering expert clinical care, pioneering discoveries about the developing brain, and improving access to evidence-based interventions and information through far-reaching school, community, and public education programs. We are committed to continuing to change children’s lives now and in the future as we expand our work throughout the country and the world. The need has never been greater.
Ms. Scott announced this gift as part of a larger round of giving designed to advance equity by supporting the needs of underrepresented people from diverse groups. The Child Mind Institute will be conscientious stewards of this mission as we strive to bring gold-standard, compassionate care to those who need it most.
On behalf of our staff, board of directors, and the children and families we serve, the Child Mind Institute would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to MacKenzie Scott for this tremendous gift. Together we can transform the lives of children by giving them the help they need.
