“When people find out that you have dyslexia or ADHD, that you’re different than what’s considered normal, then obviously you’re ‘less than.’ You can’t do the work; it’s going to be impossible. But my parents told me that nothing is impossible. That I can do it. It’s going to take a lot more effort, a lot more energy; but it can be done. And I got it done.”

Michelle Carter has ADHD.

Michelle Carter has ADHD. She won the 2016 gold medal in shot put at the Rio Olympics, becoming the first United States woman to win the event since the women’s competition began at the 1948 Summer Olympic Games. Her father, Mike, won the men’s shot put silver medal while representing Team USA at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984. Carter is the 2006 NCAA indoor champion and enjoys singing, baking, styling hair and makeup. She competed at the state level in high school choir. Carter has focused on body image both on the field and off, talking to young women about confidence through her program You Throw Girl.
