Alexandra O'Neal
Alexandra O’Neal is a psychology extern in the Healthy Brain Network at the Child Mind Institute. She is currently pursuing her PhD in clinical psychology at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, with an emphasis on assessment, trauma, and culturally responsive care. O’Neal specializes in cognitive and psychological assessment and is committed to advancing equity in mental health services. Her assessment work focuses on identifying learning disorders and attentional difficulties in diverse, urban college students — with the goal of improving access to education and mental health resources.
O’Neal’s clinical experience spans therapy and assessment, with training in humanistic and cognitive-behavioral approaches, crisis intervention, and disability-related accommodations. Prior to doctoral training, she worked on the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study at the Washington University School of Medicine, where she conducted clinical interviews and neurocognitive testing with over 700 youth participants.
In her current role at the Child Mind Institute, O’Neal draws from third-wave cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and a strengths-based lens to support patient resilience and personal growth. Guided by a commitment to early intervention and cultural humility, she views both therapy and assessment as opportunities to empower individuals with insight and support.
O’Neal strives to foster inclusive, collaborative spaces that provides meaningful care and resources to her patients and affirms their lived experiences.
