Daniela Medina-Maté
Daniela Medina-Maté, MS, is a psychology extern in the Mood Disorder Center at the Child Mind Institute. She specializes in therapy for children and adolescents as they navigate challenges related to mood, trauma, behavioral difficulties, and executive functioning. As a bilingual and bicultural clinician, Medina-Maté provides care in both English and Spanish.
Medina-Maté has provided individual and group therapy in diverse settings, including schools and community mental health clinics. In the LGBTQ+ Center at St. John’s University, she served as a doctoral fellow, providing gender-affirming care and compassionate guidance to young adults exploring their intersecting identities. Additionally, while working at a therapeutic school, Medina-Maté taught adolescents mindfulness techniques — including yoga, diaphragmatic breathing, and progressive muscle relaxation.
In her current role at the Child Mind Institute, Medina-Maté will provide individual and group therapy, as well as parent support. Drawing from evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and Parent Management Training, she tailors her work to meet each child’s unique needs.
Medina-Maté believes in building a strong therapeutic alliance with clients based on empathy, curiosity, and trust. She is deeply committed to working alongside children and families to nurture meaningful growth and lasting change.
