Lisa Barkley, MD, is the Director of the Curriculum Core of the Child Mind Institute’s Youth Mental Health Academy. She leads a team of experts in planning and implementing the educational content for Youth Mental Health Academy participants and their families.

Dr. Barkley is the CEO of KLNB Group, LLC, which is a consulting and staffing solutions provider focused on bringing innovative strategies and thought leadership together for both financial success and broad societal impact. She is an accomplished educator, researcher, leader, speaker, and coach. Her focus is patient-centered, quality care and health care education, especially in adolescent populations impacted by health disparities. She has extensive insight and knowledge regarding adolescent and young adult health and wellness through her over 20 years of experience as a board-certified adolescent, family, and sports medicine physician specialist.

Dr. Barkley is the chair of the department of family medicine and associate dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU). She received her medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine and completed her residency in family medicine at Montgomery Hospital in Norristown, PA. Following residency, she completed fellowship training in adolescent and sports medicine at Christiana Care Health Systems in Wilmington, DE. She has held numerous academic leadership and clinical roles in her career. 

Dr. Barkley is instrumental in shaping the current discourse on achieving diversity in medical education, with expertise gleaned from her innovative development, implementation, and evaluation of physician training curricula on topics including social medicine, health equity, medical ethics, spirituality, complementary medicine, and the social determinants of health. Dr. Barkley has been a steadfast proponent of “paying it forward” through outreach initiatives, community partnerships, engagement with diverse populations, and the implementation of several career programs for middle and high school students. Her health career pathways programs have been recognized by local school districts, regional societies, and university leaders. These programs were also honored in Savoy magazine’s special issue to honor the nation’s top African American doctors. One of Dr. Barkley’s passions is seeing young people she works with and colleagues succeed and find their own joy.
