Maki S. Koyama, PhD
Maki S. Koyama, PhD, is the director of Clinical Science and a research scientist at the Child Mind Institute. By applying her research expertise and knowledge, Dr. Koyama supports scientific research efforts made by three departments at the Child Mind Institute: 1) Clinical Practice, 2) School and Community Programs, and 3) Public Engagement and Education. She also supports cross-department collaborations to achieve clinical, educational, and research missions at the Child Mind Institute.
Dr. Koyama is a neuroscientist by training, and her research interests include investigating the intervention effect on children with learning disorders (e.g., dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia) and/or mental health disorders (e.g., ADHD, anxiety disorders). She is also passionate about studying the impact of professional training on educator and student outcomes. She has extensive experience in experimental design, data collection, and data analysis for research studies that use behavioral (e.g., surveys, cognitive tasks, physiological sensors) and neuroimaging (e.g., EEG, MRI) measures.
Before her current position at the Child Mind Institute, Dr. Koyama was the head of Data Assessment, Refinement, and Testing (DART) in the research department of the Child Mind Institute. Her primary role focused on the implementation of new research projects (e.g., digitized cognitive assessments) into the Healthy Brain Network – a landmark mental health research cohort.
