Nicole Burke, PhD, is a scientific software engineering generalist for the Multimodal Brain/Body Imagining (MoBI) team with the Center for Strategic Data Initiatives (SDI) at the Child Mind Institute. Dr. Burke earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and cognitive science from Northwestern University, and a master’s degree and doctorate in developmental psychology from the University of Chicago. Her doctoral work exploring how infants’ and children’s early social environments relate to social cognitive development was published in Frontiers in Psychology. Dr. Burke’s early doctoral work explored how infant attention relates to word learning and social cognition. She has extensive experience using eye-tracking technology with infants, children, and adults and has previously built software to analyze eye-tracking data. In addition to ten years of academic research experience, Dr. Burke also completed a data scientist internship with Strong Analytics, where she applied her statistical training to help derive insight and solutions in an industry setting.

In her position as a scientific software engineering generalist on the MoBI team, Dr. Burke is responsible for building software and data analysis pipelines to process eye-tracking data, as well as creating and maintaining testing spaces conducive for developmental samples. She serves as a board member for R-Ladies NYC and enjoys all things R, coding, data, and data science. Dr. Burke is excited to apply her academic and industry experiences to the Child Mind Institute Science team’s mission of transforming the lives of children with mental health and learning disorders through scientific discovery.
