Rob Kidney, DClinPsy, is the Director of Training at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Global Center for Child and Adolescent Mental Health at the Child Mind Institute. Dr. Kidney received his doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Plymouth and has a master’s degree in cognitive behavior therapy from the University of Exeter.

Since joining the Child Mind Institute, Dr. Kidney has developed a co-production approach to meet the mental health needs of children in South Africa. Collaborating with a range of NGOs has led to the development of a service model, competency framework, and curriculum to address young people’s mental health needs. Moving forward, Dr. Kidney continues to work to enable young people to access free, high-quality, evidence-based mental health care through schools in South Africa to support the mental well-being of every child.

Prior to joining the Child Mind Institute, Dr. Kidney was Director of Low Intensity (LI) Clinical Practice at the University of Exeter. This included program director roles for the cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) training of Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) and Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners (CWPs) at the university. Dr. Kidney published the Low Intensity Practice with Children Young People and Families guide and has written national guidance on the remote training of LI CBT practitioners . He has also worked as a lead clinical psychologist with Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and served as a CBT therapist on CoBalT, the largest- ever trial of CBT for treatment resistant depression. Dr. Kidney has created numerous CBT resources, presented at national and international conferences, and brings a wealth of clinical, training, and research experience to his current role.
