Shantrell Scott

Area Manager, Youth Mental Health Academy
Child Mind Institute

Shantrell Scott is the San Diego area manager for the Youth Mental Health Academy (YMHA) team at the Child Mind Institute. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Roberts Wesleyan University and is currently completing her master’s in marriage and family therapy at National University.

While pursuing her undergraduate degree, Shantrell worked at Hillside Children’s Center where she provided intensive residential care for emotionally and behaviorally challenged youth in a highly structured residential facility. Upon completing her degree, Shantrell worked as a Program Director Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) for adults at Danville Services in Nevada, where she oversaw all services provided for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, monitored the quality of care delivered, and ensured regulatory program compliance. Recognizing her passion for children and youth, she became a developmental specialist working in early intervention programs to support infants, toddlers, and their families with techniques that foster social-emotional and developmental skills. Shantrell has gone on to oversee many child and youth programs for the Navy, YMCA, and Boys & Girls Club, all aimed at supporting positive relationships with peers and caring adults, building self-esteem, fostering leadership skills, and facilitating academic success.

In her role with the Youth Mental Health Academy, Shantrell manages program outreach and recruitment in the San Diego area and provides operations implementation and oversight at San Diego area program sites. She is dedicated to the emotional, academic, and social growth of youth, and has a strong desire to equip them with the resilience, knowledge, and skills to become a positive force for change in their communities. Shantrell is passionate about being part of a program aimed at changing the landscape of mental health care in marginalized communities by providing San Diego youth the training and experience they need to successfully launch their mental health careers.
