Child Mind Institute Awarded $3.4 Million in Launch of Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children’s Mental Health
Grant Funds New Digital Initiative Bringing Mental Health Resources to Underserved Communities and Impacting More Than 400,000 Families
NEW YORK, NY – Parents serve as gatekeepers for the healthcare system. Educating parents on when and how to seek treatment for their children is a critical step toward reducing gaps in care. The Child Mind Institute has been awarded $3.4 million by the Morgan Stanley Foundation, marking the launch of the Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children’s Mental Health. The Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children’s Mental Health brings together key leaders in the children’s mental health space to strategically address children’s mental health concerns, particularly focused on vulnerable communities, and the far-reaching challenges of stress, anxiety, and depression.
The award will help the Child Mind Institute to develop, launch and market a digital parenting resource that will provide a guided digital journey that gives parents easy access to evidence-based resources on children’s mental health.
In line with the goals of the Alliance, the Child Mind Institute will tailor its materials to address the needs of children in underserved communities, who are disproportionately affected by mental health disorders and whose access to care and information is severely limited. These include economically disadvantaged, geographically isolated and Spanish-speaking communities.
“We are honored and excited to be a founding member of the Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children’s Mental Health,” said Child Mind Institute co-founder and president Harold S. Koplewicz, MD. “The Alliance has a visionary focus on the incredible need and the incredible potential in the children’s mental health space. This is particularly true for communities that face barriers to accessing information and care, and our new digital initiative represents a bold commitment to breaking down those barriers.”
Over 5 years, this initiative will provide more than 400,000 underserved families with the resources they need to help their children thrive and drive these families towards accessing mental health care.
“As mental health challenges amongst children and adolescents are rapidly becoming more pervasive and more urgent, we firmly believe there is not only an opportunity, but an obligation for the private sector to play a critical role in improving children’s mental health,” said Joan Steinberg, President, Morgan Stanley Foundation. “With a longstanding commitment to children’s wellbeing, we believe that the Alliance will generate conceivable and workable solutions to help improve mental health. Through education, prevention, awareness, and innovation, the Morgan Stanley Foundation is proud to make a difference in children’s mental health.”
