Clinicians
The heart of selective mutism (SM) treatment is helping children do “brave talking” in a variety of situations through graduated exposures. Laura Kirmayer, PhD, MSW, associate psychologist and director of the Brave Buddies program at the Child Mind Institute, will explain the whys, whens, and hows of exposure therapy so that parents and professionals can effectively guide children up the ladder. Additionally, she will help parents and teachers create their own portable brave talking kits and integrate graduated exposures into daily routines. This workshop will build on the core skill sets covered in the prior workshop, Building Brave Muscles.
