About This Event

While much concern comes from the early pandemic months and the potential lasting negative impacts on children, there has been less focus on a strengths based approach. In this talk, Dr. Klein will use the year of running an outdoor program for toddlers to understand the potential for benefits and resilience building during times of challenge and uncertainty. Findings from a qualitative study of parenting during the first year of covid-19 will also be included. Essential elements of resilience, the capacity to handle and recover or bounce back from adverse situations and events, will be discussed for young children and parents during the first year of the pandemic.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the role resilience plays in overall development
  • Identify the potential for unexpected growth during stressful times
  • Understand the need to work with both the parent and child to support children during crises
