Selective Mutism 101
This workshop is part of the Selective Mutism Parent and Educator Series. Visit Parent and Educator Workshops on Selective Mutism to register for upcoming events and view archived workshops.
As the field of psychology has become more advanced and scientific in its approach, our understanding of selective mutism symptoms and treatment has improved. Rachel Busman, PsyD, director of the Selective Mutism Service at the Child Mind Institute, will lead an in-depth discussion on the diagnosis of selective mutism, debunking the unfortunate myths and misunderstandings that continue to impact children challenged with the disorder. This workshop will provide an overview of our current behavioral understanding of selective mutism and how this guides effective interventions. Finally there will be discussion regarding how a speech and language evaluation contributes to the diagnosis of selective mutism and what speech and language services are available to help.
If you are unable to join us in person, consider watching online. The Parent and Educator Workshops on Selective Mutism are livestreamed on Ustream. You can also find recordings of past workshops on our Ustream channel.
