FOR CAREGIVERS
Depression and DBT
Getting treatment for depression and other mood disorders can feel daunting for many families, especially during the holidays. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is an intensive, structured type of therapy that can help kids and teens who have a lot of trouble handling strong emotions. DBT works by combining two sets of skills. The first skill set, mindfulness, helps kids understand and accept difficult feelings. The second, a treatment called cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), teaches them how to engage with their feelings and change their behavior.
FOR EDUCATORS
A Teacher's Guide to Selective Mutism
Selective mutism (SM) is an anxiety disorder that affects children in school, where they find themselves unable to speak, though they speak comfortably at home. In this guide, we explain what selective mutism looks like in the classroom and advise teachers on how to approach parents if they are concerned a student might have the disorder. Below is a link to our Teacher’s Guide to Selective Mutism. If you would like to learn more or refer a patient in New York or San Mateo, please reach out to us today.
