By now, we are all aware of the negative effects that social media can have on children, and on their body image. The unrealistic images they compare themselves to online can contribute to mental health issues such as eating disorders and body dysmorphic disorder. But there are many ways you can help bolster your kids’ self-confidence and encourage them to feel comfortable in their own skin.

That’s why this week at childmind.org, we’re exploring how social media affects teenagers. We also provide tips on how to help your daughter maintain a healthy body image, and what you need to know about body dysmorphic disorder. Additionally, we discuss signs that your child may be developing an eating disorder, and why the symptoms might look different in boys.
