About the Initiative

The Global Landscape Mapping Initiative was launched in 2023 to summarize and evaluate mental health research in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). It was also created to enhance the existing body of knowledge on child and adolescent mental health in LMICs and bridge the gap between research findings and mental health practices.

To support this mission, our team at the SNF Global Center has developed five distinct workstreams focused on measurement, qualitative and quantitative mapping, innovation, and the creation of comprehensive databases through systematic reviews.

Our Workstreams

Measurement Toolkit

Measurement Toolkit

There is a significant gap in the global mental health field regarding free, accessible, and culturally relevant measurement tools for children and youth. Our team is addressing this gap by developing a comprehensive toolkit that assesses 17 common mental health conditions, including suicide and domains of functioning (daily life, school, and social life).

Qualitative and Quantitative Mapping

Qualitative and Quantitative Mapping

To obtain a comprehensive understanding of the current mental health landscape for children and youth globally, the SNF Global Center team, in collaboration with international partners, will conduct a series of qualitative and quantitative assessments in Brazil, Greece, South Africa, and Mozambique.

Methodological Innovations

Methodological Innovations

To support cost-effective, high-quality data collection in low-resource settings, the team will collaborate with partners from the University of Michigan and Harvard University to design and test a framework that calibrates non-probability samples to probability samples.

Systematic Reviews

Systematic Reviews

The SNF Global Center’s team has been conducting a series of nationwide systematic reviews in Greece, Brazil, South Africa (1,2,3), and Mozambique that focus on mapping and evaluating assessment instruments, prevalence estimates, and intervention programs.
