This Exhibition Wall is part of a rotating exhibition program- an initiative developed by our art program to create an engaging, flexible, and creative healing environment. Thoughtfully curated by Christine Mack of the Mack Art Foundation in Brooklyn, it will feature a dynamic mix of established and emerging artists. Each presentation will explore themes connected to mental health, using art as a catalyst for reflection, dialogue, and connection.

The selection of objects, their arrangements, and their ‘importance’ disclose much about the consciousness of the people who have collected and organized them. My paintings are more than representations of our possessions, they are portraits of our minds.”

Richard Pasquarelli has developed a distinctive visual language inspired by analysis of his own obsessive compulsions for symmetry ordering, as well as research into psychology, mental health, and philosophy. Informed by the legacies of Realism and Minimalism, Pasquarelli’s work depicts the subtle relationships between physical reality and the psyche.

Building upon his academic research, Pasquarelli seeks out institutional, personal, and everyday spaces which exemplify the relationships he depicts. The interviews he conducts and the thousands of photographs he takes during his field research are integral parts of his practice.

Richard Pasquarelli has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions in museums, galleries, and art fairs throughout the U.S. and Europe. His work is represented globally in many public and private collections including the Cleveland Museum of Art, Detroit Institute of Arts, the Taubman Museum of Art, the US Library of Congress, Flint Institute of Arts, University Hospitals Cleveland, the Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection, the Zabludowicz Collection, MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings, General Dynamics Inc., Progressive Insurance, Roanoke College Art Collection, Syracuse University Art Collection, and the Mattatuck Museum of Art. Selected residencies, awards, and commissions include The Watermill Center, MASS MoCA, Ucross Foundation, the Ragdale Foundation, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, The Print Club of Cleveland Annual Presentation Print commission award for 2017, and multiple public installations for the City of New York. Pasquarelli has been a visiting artist and advisor, lectured on, and been interviewed about his work at Yale University, Syracuse University, Roanoke College, WPKN Radio, Whitehot Art World Podcast, and Radio Free Brooklyn, to name a few. Pasquarelli was born in 1968 and received his BFA from Syracuse University. Pasquarelli lives and works in New York City.

In January 2024, the Child Mind Institute moved its headquarters to a new 82,000-square-foot space in Midtown Manhattan. From the beginning, our new home was envisioned not only as a place for clinical care and research, but as a space that feels comforting, human, and inviting for children, teens, and their families. In order to support this vision, CMI established a comprehensive Art Program to foster meaningful engagement between our patients and the artwork around them. Through a thoughtfully curated permanent collection and integrated installations, the program helps create an environment that is stimulating, flexible, and collaborative —a space where we will help tens of thousands of children from 49 states, Washington, DC, and 45 nations over the coming decades and inspire current and future scientists to change the child mental health field as we know it. We hope that the digital archive will give patients and their families further opportunity to explore the collection and learn more about the talented artists that have contributed to our space.
