In her corner

Celebrating Caroline’s Superpowers

How a family’s biggest challenges became their greatest strengths

Celebrating Caroline’s Superpowers

Caroline's Story

Caroline is fearless. Her mom, Liz, describes her as “super high-energy, really curious, and kind of unstoppable.”

These are Caroline’s superpowers. But they can also manifest as challenges. She has sometimes struggled to manage her emotions, had trouble focusing, or acted aggressively. When she was as little as two or three years old, her mom would notice how frustrated and out of control she was feeling. She knew their family needed professional support.

Care and Community

Care and Community

That’s when they discovered the Child Mind Institute. Their family found the answers they’d been looking for: Caroline was diagnosed with ADHD and began to receive treatment, while Liz learned strategies to help her along the way.

What Liz didn’t expect to find was a community — a whole team of people who cared for her family and cheered them on. It meant having someone in their corner when they needed it most.

“At the Child Mind Institute, I knew that we were in good hands.”

– Caroline’s Mom

Finding Hope

Finding Hope

Liz remembers when she and Caroline first started working with Dr. Angela Breidenstine at the Child Mind Institute. In those early days, their family was learning together about Caroline’s ADHD and the strategies they could use to help her.

At first, Liz felt so vulnerable — but the acceptance and trust that they found with Angie and the whole team put her at ease. She started to feel like things would be okay

“As I worked with Caroline and Liz, it was an honor to see them grow, individually and together.”

– Dr. Angela Breidenstine

Celebrating Her Superpowers

Celebrating Her Superpowers

Today, Caroline is thriving. Over the years, she’s learned effective ways to harness that irrepressible energy that her mom loves so much, and thrown herself into fun activities like trapeze and parkour. And her whole family has learned how to support her and celebrate the superpowers that make her who she is.

About Your Donation

About the Child Mind Institute

Millions of children – as many as 1 in 5 – struggle with mental health or learning challenges. Fully 70% of U.S. counties do not have a single child and adolescent psychiatrist. Due to stigma, misinformation, and a lack of access to care, the average time between onset of symptoms and any treatment at all is over 8 years. Our children deserve better.

That’s why the Child Mind Institute was created.

We’re dedicated to transforming the lives of children and families struggling with mental health and learning disorders by giving them the help they need. We’ve become the leading independent nonprofit in children’s mental health by providing gold-standard evidence-based care, delivering educational resources to millions of families each year, training educators in underserved communities, and developing tomorrow’s breakthrough treatments.

Together, we truly can transform children’s lives.
