Professor, Director of the Youth and Family Research Program
University of Pittsburgh

Brooke S.G. Molina, PhD, is a professor of psychiatry, psychology, pediatrics, and clinical and translational science and director of the Youth and Family Research Program at the University of Pittsburgh. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in Pennsylvania. Throughout her career, Dr. Molina has conducted federally funded single- and multi-site studies on the course, causes, outcomes, and treatments of ADHD and substance use /disorder among both individuals with increased risk (ADHD; children of parents with alcohol use disorder) and typical populations. This work has spanned several developmental windows, ranging from childhood to adulthood. Her greatest area of research concentration has been longitudinal studies of individuals with ADHD, with an emphasis on understanding their multifactorial risk for harmful alcohol use and other substance use/disorders as well as long-term diagnostic and functioning outcomes.

Since 1995, Dr. Molina has received funding from NIAAA, NIMH, and NIDA to conduct studies that span decades, with a focus on two well-known cohorts of adults followed since childhood (Pittsburgh ADHD Longitudinal Study; longitudinal follow-up of the children in the Multimodal Treatment of ADHD study). Other projects have focused on the neurocognitive mechanisms underlying psychopathology course and outcome, psychosocial and pharmacologic treatment for ADHD, prevention of stimulant diversion, diagnosis of ADHD in adulthood, and ADHD-related risk for Alzheimer’s disease. She directs the Developmental Alcohol Research (T32) Training program for postdoctoral scholars (DART), has served on multiple journal editorial boards and NIH review panels, and is the president of the American Professional Society for ADHD and Related Disorders (APSARD).
