Christian Hernandez
Christian Hernandez, BA, is a social work intern in the Mood Disorders Center at the Child Mind Institute. He is a second-year graduate student at the Columbia University School of Social Work and a member of their dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) Training Program.
Christian has extensive experience working with children and their parents in individual and group settings. He has received training in using parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) with children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and selective mutism (SM). He has also received training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), and applied behavior analysis (ABA). At his most recent internship with South Bronx United, Christian received training in sports psychology.
Christian rejoins the Child Mind Institute, having previously worked as a Summer Program counselor, Brave Buddies counselor, PCIT Program Assistant in the ADHD and Behavior Disorders Center, and a Program Coordinator for the School and Community Program.
Christian is passionate about supporting children, adolescents, and their families through a collaborative and strengths-based approach. Before starting graduate school, Christian attended film school, where he trained as a screenwriter, actor, director, and editor at the New York Film Academy. He has also coached several sports for over a decade and uses lessons from his clinical training in his coaching, and vice versa. He also applies a sports psychology lens to help student-athletes learn valuable life skills that will help them both on and off the field.
