Rachel Kanen, PsyD, is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Gund Learning and Diagnostic Center at the Child Mind Institute. She specializes in comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and young adults with a variety of conditions that affect learning, behavior, and social-emotional functioning. Dr. Kanen has extensive experience working with autism spectrum disorder, learning disorders, language disorders, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). She combines evidence-based practices with a warm, individualized approach to better understand each child’s strengths and areas for growth to help them reach their full potential.

Beyond her assessment work, Dr. Kanen has led the PEERS Social Skills Program, an evidence-based curriculum designed for middle and high school students, as well as young adults. Dr. Kanen is also skilled in providing individual psychotherapy, using a client-centered, tailored approach in combination with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Her experience spans a range of settings, including outpatient psychiatry, private practice, community mental health, partial hospitalization, inpatient care, and state hospitals. Dr. Kanen has particular expertise in working with anxiety disorders, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, complex trauma, and serious, persistent mental illness. She is passionate about working with individuals of various ages and diverse backgrounds.
