Sara Guttentag, PsyD, is an associate psychologist in the Mood Disorders Center at the Child Mind Institute. Dr. Guttentag specializes in evaluating and treating children, adolescents, and young adults managing mood and anxiety disorders. She has experience treating individuals with depression, generalized anxiety, trauma, and a wide range of other psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders, including ADHD, autism, and oppositional and disruptive behaviors.
Dr. Guttentag has been extensively trained in various evidence-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT). Dr. Guttentag’s training has also emphasized supporting parents of children and teens with various behavioral challenges using evidence-based interventions such as parent management training (PMT). She utilizes an integrative, evidence-informed approach to best meet the needs of the child and their family, while working collaboratively with schools and other supports in the child’s life to promote lasting change.
Dr. Guttentag has provided individual, family, and group therapy in a variety of settings, including medical centers, outpatient clinics, schools, and community mental health clinics. Prior to joining the Child Mind Institute, Dr. Guttentag trained as a predoctoral intern at JCCA, where she worked extensively with children, adolescents, and families within the foster care system struggling with trauma-related disorders, chronic stress, intellectual disabilities, and mood and anxiety disorders. Dr. Guttentag’s approach involves fostering a warm and collaborative therapeutic relationship and integrating therapeutic practices that are proven to work with the flexibility to meet each family’s goals and needs.
