Five Months of Healthy Minds, Thriving Kids

June 29, 2022

In January 2022, through a transformational $25 million grant from the state of California, the Child Mind Institute launched a new initiative that aims to make preventive mental wellness resources accessible to all children in California and beyond.

What is the California Healthy Minds, Thriving Kids Project?

The project is a series of free, evidence-based video and print resources available in English and Spanish that caregivers and educators can use to teach kids critical mental health and coping skills. Children learn practical techniques such as using breathing to self-soothe, identifying helpful versus unhelpful thoughts, and applying mindfulness in everyday activities. Resources feature real teachers, parents, and students to reflect the diverse lived experiences of kids today.

In the past five months, more than 321,000 visitors have accessed our Content Hub, streaming videos over 181,000 times and downloading videos and skill sheets over 43,000 times. Over 15,750 California educators from 4,000 schools received an incentive to sample content and provide feedback as part of a campaign to bring the project into California schools. 91% of users agree that their students would benefit from seeing our videos, 81% agree that their students would find the videos interesting to watch, and 84% express intent to use the videos in their classroom.

Messages of Gratitude and Support

I can’t thank you enough!!! I’m a therapist working with teens and adults in a small rural community. I’ve been looking for something like this for a very long time…I just want to say thank you for taking the time to make this so professional and engaging. I believe these videos and other resources will be valuable therapy tools.

As a grandmother of two girls aged four and three…I believe that being informed, up-to-date and prepared…is an invaluable support that you have made available to those of us who have the great task of supporting the growth of our children.
