We’ve all heard by now that self-care is important for parents, but it can often feel like one more item on a never-ending to-do list. Especially if your child has mental health or learning challenges, taking time to focus on your own wellbeing may seem indulgent — or just plain impossible. But there are sustainable ways to build self-care into your life as a parent.

This week at childmind.org, we’re rounding up resources to help parents manage stress and avoid burnout. We look at how support groups and mindfulness techniques can be helpful, and at strategies for coping when you’re dealing with your own anxiety or depression. We also have information on postpartum mental health challenges, which don’t always fit the stereotypes of postpartum depression.
