Most children can’t wait for school to let out, but for neurodivergent kids — including those with ADHD, autism, and learning disorders — summertime comes with its own host of concerns. The long break takes everyone out of their routines, which can be hard for kids who have a tough time with change, and unstructured days can leave kids struggling to find their footing.

This week, we’re rounding up resources to help you prepare for summer, whether you want to help kids with ADHD try new activities (and prepare for the inevitable surprises), ease the fears of anxious kids with pre-camp jitters, or anticipate the needs of kids with sensory processing issues at fireworks, the beach, and beyond. We have tips for getting kids enthusiastic about reading and maintaining — or even developing — academic skills for kids with learning disorders. And when it comes to summer travel, with society becoming more aware of the needs of neurodivergent kids, it’s getting easier to organize a vacation that works for your whole family — while opening everyone’s eyes to a world of possibilities.
