How It Works

In the first summer, mentors will meet with their group of students each Wednesday during the 5-week program as they learn about the mental health field and complete their capstone project. As a role model, mentors will be responsible for cultivating a positive, inclusive atmosphere and for building their mentees’ confidence in achieving academic goals, navigating college applications, and exploring careers.

During the school year, mentors will have monthly virtual check-ins to assist students in making informed academic and career decisions, maintain relationships, and provide continued motivation. During the second summer, mentors will support students as they complete an internship in a mental health-related field.

Mentors will receive support and guidance from the Youth Mental Health Academy staff throughout the program.
