We do not currently offer master’s-level practicum placements or training opportunities for high school students. However, new programs are developed regularly, so please check back for future opportunities.
Our Training Opportunities
The Child Mind Institute’s training programs expand access to high-quality, evidence-based mental healthcare while cultivating the next generation of mental health professionals. We’re proud to offer a wide range of opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, including postdoctoral fellowships, pre-doctoral internships, externship and practicum options, social work internships, and undergraduate summer internships. We also provide continuing education for licensed mental health professionals through our Visiting Professor Lecture Series.
Continuing medical education (CME-CE) credits are available to psychologists and psychiatrists through accreditation with Northwell Health.

Our Visiting Professor Lecture Series invites leaders in the field of child and adolescent mental health to talk about the latest research and treatment protocols. Some lectures are presented in person from our New York City Midtown office with a virtual simulcast.
Fellowships generally recruit from September through February, with positions filled on a rolling basis.
Postdoctoral Psychology and Neuropsychology Fellowships
The Child Mind Institute offers postdoctoral fellowships that provide advanced training in evidence-based assessment and care for children, adolescents, and young adults across specialized clinical centers.
A one-year fellowship in the ADHD and Behavior Disorders Center providing diagnostic assessments, evidence-based behavioral and cognitive-behavioral treatments such as CBT and PMT, and school consultation for youth with ADHD and behavioral challenges, with potential involvement in the ADHD Summer Program and BEST program.
A two-year fellowship in the Autism Center combines advanced training in assessment and intervention for autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions with direct clinical care, research activities, and mastery of gold-standard diagnostic and treatment protocols, including the ADOS-2, ADI-R, ESDM, Project ImPACT, PEERS, and CFT.
A one-year fellowship in our San Francisco Bay Area office, offering the opportunity to conduct assessments and deliver evidence-based therapies—including CBT and DBT—to children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing anxiety, mood, and comorbid disorders.
A two-year fellowship in the Gund Learning and Diagnostic Center focused on comprehensive neuropsychological and educational assessment, report writing, feedback, and academic or executive functioning interventions for children, adolescents, and young adults.
A one-year fellowship in our Mood Disorders Center delivering diagnostic evaluations and evidence-based individual, family, and group treatments—including CBT and DBT—for youth with mood disorders and related concerns, with opportunities in the DBT program and Mood Masters.
A one-year fellowship in the Bubrick Center for Pediatric OCD providing diagnostic evaluations and specialized cognitive-behavioral therapy, including exposure and response prevention (ERP), for children, adolescents, and young adults with OCD and related disorders.
Pre-doctoral Clinical Psychology Internships recruit from September through March on a rolling basis.
Pre-doctoral Psychology Internship
This internship is a one-year program for final-year PhD or PsyD students.
This program provides advanced training in evidence-based treatments for anxiety, ADHD and behavior disorders, and mood disorders, with additional opportunities to work with selective mutism, autism, and neuropsychological assessment.

We offer externship opportunities in our New York City offices for students seeking advanced training in the assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders, ADHD and behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders, OCD, learning disorders, and mood disorders, serving children, adolescents, and young adults in individual, group, parent-focused, and family formats.

The Anxiety and Mood Disorders Center in the San Francisco Bay Area offers a specialized one-year practicum focused on developing skills in semi-structured diagnostic assessments and evidence-based interventions—including CBT, ERP, SPACE, DBT, PMT, and PCIT/PCIT-SM—for children, adolescents, and young adults with anxiety, mood, and comorbid disorders, delivered in individual, group, parent-focused, family, and intensive formats.

Clinical Summer Internship
A 10-week, full-time summer internship for undergraduate juniors and seniors exploring careers in child and adolescent mental health.
Interns will gain hands-on experience through shadowing, mentorship, program support, project work, and training as counselors in our summer treatment programs.

The Child Mind Institute offers a variety of internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students interested in child and adolescent mental health. Across these roles, interns gain supervised experience with direct clinical exposure.
A one-year internship in our Anxiety Disorders Center for second-year MSW graduate students offering advanced training and supervision in evidence-based treatments—including CBT, ERP, and PCIT-SM—for children, teens, and young adults with anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and selective mutism.
Offered September through May. Accepts applications from March through June.
In our four-week immersive program for children with disruptive behavior and related social and learning difficulties. Interns serve as counselors and are trained in evidence-based behavior management techniques. This role is ideal for undergraduate or graduate students seeking hands-on clinical experience.
Offered June through July. Accepts applications on a rolling basis from December through March.
A hands-on internship in a multi-day intensive group treatment for children ages 3–12 with selective mutism. Interns are trained in strategies from PCIT–SM and serve as 1:1 counselors supporting children in speaking in a simulated classroom environment and in public settings.
A part-time (12–15 hours/week) internship supporting the Selective Mutism team. Interns learn and observe manualized, evidence-based treatments while assisting with client sessions. Ideal for motivated undergraduates seeking clinical experience.
