Managing Intense Emotions (NY)

About This Professional Event
Painful feelings are inevitable, but how we respond to them is a choice. Teaching children how to effectively cope with uncomfortable emotions is one of the most important ways we can support their wellbeing and development. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) are evidence-based treatments designed to help individuals who struggle with intense emotions and dysregulation. This event will provide an overview of how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected and how these treatments help children develop skills to decrease unwanted feelings and unhelpful behaviors. Additionally, medication management strategies will be discussed as part of a holistic approach to supporting emotional regulation and overall mental health. Our clinical experts will offer DBT and CBT techniques and strategies to help kids reframe their negative thoughts and problem-solve in difficult situations.
This event is an opportunity for pediatricians, teachers, educational consultants, and mental health professionals to collaborate and network to support youth mental health.
