When children have frequent emotional outbursts, it can be a sign that they haven’t yet developed the ability to cope with frustration, anxiety, and anger. Handling big emotions in a healthy, mature way requires a variety of skills, including impulse control, emotional self-regulation, and problem solving.

If a child is acting out a lot, it can strain the parent-child relationship and create regular frustration and resentment that isn’t healthy for the family. Our ADHD and Behavior Disorders Center specializes in diagnosing and treating children and teens with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and behavior disorders. Our team of experienced ADHD psychologists and social workers are skilled at helping families with even the most challenging behaviors.

Summer Program to Help Build Confidence

Kids who struggle with behavior can feel like they are frequently being corrected and criticized. This impacts their self-esteem and can diminish their view of academics and learning. To address this issue, we’ve developed our Summer Program, a four-week summer treatment for children who have ADHD or who need help with behavioral, learning, and social issues. Children will build confidence and benefit from a high level of support and counselor expertise as they work on goals including:

  • Developing and maintaining positive peer relationships
  • Improving emotional awareness and regulation
  • Jump-starting academic progress or maintaining school-year gains

About 10 percent of the school population — 9 to 13 million children — struggle with mental health problems. And in a typical class of 20, there is a good chance that one or two students are dealing with serious psychosocial stressors relating to a range of issues including trauma or a psychiatric disorder.
