Most families struggle with challenging behaviors in their kids at one time or another. When children throw tantrums, whine, or hit, it can be hard for adults to get them to stop. But it helps to use strategies devised by behavior experts.

Our Behavioral and Emotional Skills Training (BEST)℠ provides caregivers evidence-based strategies that promote positive behavior, good social-emotional development, and increased self-esteem.

In some cases, challenging behaviors, while frustrating, are completely age appropriate. In other cases, these behaviors may point to something deeper. If you are concerned about your child, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us today.

School Refusal Parent Training and Consultation

It’s common for kids not to want to go to school every once in a while. But students experiencing what experts call “school refusal” have persistent and extreme anxiety about going to school. Your child may have school refusal if they frequently try to avoid school and get extremely upset about going.

Kids experiencing school avoidance may also feel sick a lot and regularly visit the school nurse. Our School Refusal Parent Training and Consultation program provides support for caregivers with children and teens who are refusing to go to school or exhibiting school avoidance behaviors. Participants will learn about the underlying causes that contribute to their child’s anxious thoughts and feelings around going to school. They will also learn evidence-based strategies to help their child using a gradual, supportive, and collaborative approach.

But research shows that paying more attention to the behaviors you do want to see — rather than the ones you don’t — is a much more effective strategy.
