Leveraging clinical experience and allowing patients to contribute valuable information to research is another avenue the Child Mind Institute is taking to accelerate the pace of discovery. Data collected by treating clinicians — thorough case histories, treatment decisions and more — is being made available to researchers around the world through our open science initiatives. We’re removing barriers between clinicians and researchers to create a culture of collaboration that changes the way children with mental health disorders are treated.

We’re also working with kids and families to give them a voice. The Child Mind Institute’s electronic medical record (EMR) system collects relevant (and anonymous) data in a format researchers can use. If patients and families consent to share it, everyone benefits — including other families in need of help.
