Children’s Friendship Training (CFT) is a 12-week evidence-based social skills program for elementary school children who experience difficulties making or keeping friends. During each group session, children are taught important social skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills during socialization activities. Parents attend separate sessions and are taught how to assist their children in making and keeping friends.

Who

The program is for children in two age groups, 2nd -3rd grade and 4th -5th grade, who have:

  • Social/behavioral challenges
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • ADHD
  • Social pragmatic communication disorder

Parent participation is required.

What

  • Learn to play cooperatively with others
  • Learn to appropriately use electronic communication
  • Learn to find common interests and talk with peers
  • Learn to handle teasing and resolve disagreements

Additional Information

A pre-screening with an assessment for group readiness will occur before admission into the group is confirmed. If accepted into the program, there will be a $150 application processing fee.

A minimum of 5 participants for 2nd – 3rd grade and 4th – 5th grade groups are required. Each group will be capped at 8 participants.
