Overview
Autism Behavior Support for Parents is a structured, evidence-based program designed to support caregivers of children with autism who are experiencing challenging behaviors. Developed by the Research Unit on Behavioral Intervention (RUBI) Autism Network, this program teaches caregivers practical strategies to better understand behavior and respond in ways that are consistent, supportive, and effective.
The program focuses on building skills that can be applied immediately in daily routines—at home and in the community—to improve communication, reduce disruptive behaviors, and increase positive interactions.

Eligibility
Autism Behavior Support for Parents is appropriate for caregivers of children ages 7-12 with autism and are experiencing challenges such as:
- Tantrums or emotional meltdowns
- Verbal or physical aggression
- Property destruction
- Difficulty with transitions or flexibility
- Challenges with routines and compliance
Additional Information
Caregivers should be able to commit to weekly sessions and engage in at-home practice between sessions.
What to Expect
Each session builds on the last, helping caregivers develop confidence and consistency over time. Sessions include didactic instruction, modeling, and role-play to introduce and practice strategies, along with group discussion for shared problem-solving and support, and at-home practice between sessions.
Topics may include:
- Understanding behavior and its function
- Using reinforcement effectively
- Creating daily schedules and visual supports
- Teaching new skills through prompting and shaping

- A strong understanding of behavioral principles
- Tools to manage challenging behavior both proactively and in the moment
- Strategies to build adaptive skills and improve routines

Autism Behavior Support for Parents is for caregivers of children ages 7–12 with autism who are experiencing behavioral challenges at home or in the community.
Caregivers gain practical, proven strategies to reduce challenging behaviors, improve communication, and create more positive daily routines.
If a child cannot attend and we are notified at least 7 days prior to the start date of the program we will issue a refund, excluding a $300 non-refundable deposit for administrative fees. At the time of registration full payment is required to reserve a space. If less than 7 days notification is given, no refund will be provided.
Our model of care requires a dedicated staff to make it work, and we need to charge for their services. We do not accept insurance, but we help families use out-of-network benefits by providing superbills for their insurance company. Additionally, we partner with two organizations to assist with filing, managing claims, verifying benefits, and handling pre-authorizations.
Financial aid is available for families who qualify. We do not run our clinical care for profit. Any excess revenue goes to support financial aid. Please ask our patient experience team for more information.
