With both parents and teenagers reporting soaring rates of stress, mindfulness is a valuable practice to try. It can’t resolve all the things that are stressing you out, but it can help you feel calmer, less overwhelmed, and more able to handle whatever is on your plate.

This week at childmind.org we are talking about mindfulness — the practice of paying attention to how you feel in the moment, without judgment — and how it can help people of all ages. Mindfulness techniques can help kids with ADHD, anxiety, and other challenges when they are struggling, and they are useful for parents who are feeling overwhelmed or anxious. If your teen feels like they are on an emotional coaster, you can show them these videos on grounding and self-compassion made especially for adolescents. Teens might also explore mindfulness by trying a new journaling app created by the Child Mind Institute called Mirror.
