Shirley Reynolds, PhD
Shirley Reynolds, PhD, is the Director of Psychosocial Interventions at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Global Center for Child and Adolescent Mental Health at the Child Mind Institute. The aim of the Global Center is to increase access to evidence-based mental health care and support for children and young people living in low- and middle-income countries.
Shirley is a UK-based clinical psychologist who has worked in child and adolescent mental health for over 30 years. Her interests and expertise are in developing and adapting psychological therapies for children and young people, evaluating their effectiveness and cost effectiveness, and disseminating them as widely and freely as possible. In addition to developing and leading formal training programs in clinical psychology and psychological therapies, Shirley has designed and delivered online mental health training that is freely available worldwide and which targets professionals and members of the public.
Shirley has also led and designed clinical trials evaluating treatments for child and adolescent depression, anxiety, and OCD. She was the sole clinical psychology panel member in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) in the UK. This is the organization that assesses the research outputs and social, economic, and public impacts of all higher education institutes in the UK.
Shirley established and co-directed the NHS-funded Anxiety and Depression in Young People (AnDY) Research Clinic at the University of Reading, UK. She has held leadership positions in the National Health Service in the UK and advised many different national and international organizations. Shirley is an Honorary Fellow of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and served as President from 2010 to 2012. She is also a member of the Scientific Committee of BABCP, the European Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (EABCT), and the World Confederation of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (WCCBT). Shirley was a founding editor of the journal Evidence-Based Mental Health.
